Bottled Water Vs Bottled Beer – Why You Should Keep Hydrated When Drinking This Christmas

The best way to stay hydrated when drinking over Christmas is to consume a lot of water. After a night of socialising with friends, you don’t have to wake up with a pounding head ache and a dry mouth.

Alcohol is a diuretic and reduces the levels of anti-diuretic hormone in the body. This causes you to feel the need to urinate excessively throughout an evening, which speeds up the loss of fluid from the body.

Drinking causes dehydration. It is dehydration that causes headaches from the brain being starved of water. A way to gauge if you’re dehydrated is to inspect your urine.

If your body has sufficient amounts of water, your urine will be odourless and pale yellow in colour. If your urine is dark yellow or amber in colour, this is a sign you are becoming dehydrated and need to replace your fluids with the clear stuff.

Drinking a bottle of water between alcoholic drinks will reduce the chance of having a terrible hangover the following day. In doing this it will decrease the workload of the kidneys to cleanse the body of toxins.

Water plays an important role in helping to regulate your body temperature, by drinking enough your skin complexion should also improve.

Constipation, urinary tract infections and irritable bowel syndrome are all other problems which can be brought on by not drinking enough water.

Our respiratory system uses around 4 cups of water each day, just through breathing in oxygen and exhaling co2. The UK government recommend a daily intake of 2 litres of water (6-8 glasses) in order to stay hydrated. More water should be consumed when drinking alcohol.

Pregnant women should make sure they are hydrated throughout pregnancy, as it can prevent pregnancy related illnesses such as bladder infections, constipation and haemorrhoids. Drinking water will reduce the chances of early labour and maintain efficient breast milk production.

If you’re not a huge fan of water, try adding either a fruit based cordial or a slice of lemon. Both of these should add some flavour if you find water too bland.

Bottled water is cheaper than drinking tea, coffee or carbonated drinks when you’re out on your travels. You can ask for water out the tap, and you won’t be charged a penny. Completely replacing alcohol with water this Christmas will save you money from expensive drinks, and prevent you delving into your wallets for a taxi.

With so many health benefits to drinking water, why not drink more?

The best water to get enough water on board this Christmas is to install a water cooler system. This allows you constant access to ice cold water. Mains fed water cooling systems are also available, which purify and chill the water which would usually run from your tap.

A slightly more expensive option is to install a mineral water cooler system, which is sourced directly from a natural spring straight to your glass. Drinking sufficient water will reduce symptoms of dehydration including; headaches, confusion, irritability, lack of concentration and in extreme cases sickness.
